Abstract | Based on an everyday quasi-experimental situation with multiple materials, the behavior of male and female early childhood education (ECE) workers is recorded and compared. The research is based on a sample of 41 female and 41 male ECE workers, who in each case work together in tandem in a kindergarten class, as well as a control group of 12 woman/woman tandems. The interactional behaviour of the ECE workers is evaluated with respect to professional standards. Additionally, the use of the materials, and the products made in the situations, are analysed. In this connection, with respect to professional standards, the comparative analysis results in no significant differences between men and women. Gender specific differences are apparent, however, with respect to the selection of materials by the ECE workers, and in the transformation of the themes of the boys and girls into a product. It is also apparent that, in a similar way, ECE workers of both genders tend to behave differently towards boys and girls, and this tendency is more pronounced with women. (As Provided). |
